Alison Glass' Swatch Quilt
Swatch is part of Alison Glass Sew 'Skill Builder Series!' This series is designed to build your skills as quilters. Each pattern in the series teaches an important quilting skill, allowing you to learn, practice and master it through the creation of a beautiful quilt.
The pattern includes full color instructions and diagrams, along with helpful tips to give practice with improv quilting and the creation of a beautiful one of a kind quilt.
Size: 58 x 68" as shown, however, your finished quilt may be larger or smaller based on the decisions you make.
Technique: The idea of improvisational quilting can be a little daunting, especially for those of us who like to follow a plan. The freedom can make it hard to know where to start or what to do. This pattern is set up as a controlled improv situation. Improv with boundaries if you will. To give practice with freedom but still provide some guidance. The hope is that you will practice improve through this small taste and then be able to apply what you've learned and felt here to your own improve projects.
Foreground: Small colorful scraps, 1/4-1/2 yard total. Cover quilt uses tiny bits of 36 fabrics.
Background: 3 yards total, cover quilt uses 1 yard each of 3 neutral creams.
Backing: 4 yards, 44" wide
Binding: 3/4 yard, 44" wide
Necessary Tools: sewing machine, scissors, marking tool, rotary cutter, cutting mat, rulers, thread, iron, ironing surface
