Product Description

From Kate Davies, Àrd Thìr’s worsted spinning and carefully blended fibres lend it a wonderfully soft and squishy hand. It’s a round, smooth and highly versatile yarn that knits up into a wonderfully warm and even fabric.

Àrd Thìr has been produced in one highland landscape (Peru) and inspired by another (Scotland).

The Scottish winter landscape is often thought to be drained of colour, but if you look carefully, you’ll discover a mix of many interesting shades: from the deepening russet tones of bracken-covered hillsides to the luminous hues of lichen hanging from bare branches; from the glancing orange glow of sunlight across high rocky peaks to the extraordinarily rich colour of a sealoch under a leaden February sky. Each of Kate’s ten shades is a subtle, muted marl; each possesses its own depth and tonal variety; some can be combined into intriguing gradients, and all work together harmoniously as a range.

Àrd-Thìr is a blend of Peruvian Highland Wool and Superfine Alpaca, perfect for texture, cables and colourwork.

Although Àrd-Thìr is sold as an Aran (heavy worsted) weight,  it can be knitted across quite a broad range of gauges.

Please note: yarns are dyed in batches, please make sure that you order enough yarn for your project as dye lots do vary between batches and colourways may not perfectly match.

Ard-Thir is sold as a skein. We are happy to wind the skein into a ball for you (just leave us a note to do so in the comment box). Please note that all skeins once wound into a ball are non-refundable.
